Leonardo in Cozzo

A historical bond unites the Gallarati family with the Tuscan genius. At the head of a large and industrious workshop based in the ‘old court’ of Milan (now the Royal Palace), Leonardo was also the teacher of numerous pupils, among whom we identify Francesco Melzi as the most illustrious, young scion of a well-known Milanese patrician family. Loyal until Leonardo’s death, it was Melzi who inherited all his drawings and artistic and scientific manuscripts, which I jealously guarded throughout my life. The current owners of the Cozzo castle also descend from the Melzi family, underlining an already established link with the Tuscan genius.
