The most notable and prestigious guest of the couple is certainly the King of France Louis XII, who before entering Milan victorious, stopped in Cozzo in 1499.

The fresco – now in this room of the castle but originally in the entrance courtyard – celebrates the meeting.

The king is welcomed by Mary and her retinue of ladies; Pietro is a little distant.

Maria knows how kings are welcomed: in 1311 her ancestors welcomed Henry VII, aspiring emperor, Dante’s son, who had raised so many hopes in Italy.
